 The first step is to assess whether an individual is eligible for the Windrush Schemes to support people access legal residency and compensation. This involves a review of their immigration history. Meetings can be arranged in-person, via telephone, or Zoom. Windrush Defenders Legal C.I.C. can also signpost or refer individuals to other suitable services within their network for support with mental health, education, work, housing and criminal justice. 

 Once eligibility is established, Windrush Defenders Legal C.I.C. can provide culturally appropriate support and advocacy for an individual to gather all relevant documents and evidence to complete and file the application.

  Once the application is filed, it will be reviewed by the relevant authorities. The individual may need to provide additional documentation or attend telephone interviews as part of this process however Windrush Defenders Legal C.I.C. can provide culturally specific advocacy for this process. 

 If a Windrush Scheme application is successful the individual will receive a document confirming their legal status in the UK. If a compensation scheme application is successful, the individual will receive an offer which they may choose to accept or refuse.

The offer letter will tell them what to do if they do not accept the offer.
