We believe that when we work together to address issues that affect community cohesion our communities thrive. Building cohesion within and between communities is an essential step towards improving people’s quality of life.

We are working to build communities where people want to live and invest, feel confident that they belong and are comfortable mixing and interacting with others.

We champion collaborative working and support towards improved re-engagement with community activities, responsive to local needs, culturally aware and sensitive to issues of injustices that affect different areas of development our communities can transform.

Reviving our existing social networks and getting to the root of divisions we can heal, repair and build together. Our community engagement events and forums facilitate social interactions, provide safe and supportive environments where people can feel they are not alone, hear from others going through similar experiences and share milestones, triumphs, challenges and next steps.

We are committed to working in partnership with communities, community organisations and public institutions on shared visions and joint efforts in challenging and addressing issues faced by the African and Caribbean community to eliminate racial disparities in education, criminal justice, work, health and community cohesion.

We are committed to working in partnership with communities, community organisations and public institutions on shared visions and joint efforts in challenging and addressing issues faced by the African and Caribbean community to eliminate racial disparities in education, criminal justice, work, health and community cohesion.

We work beyond the standard service delivery model, by identifying and tackling the critical systemic barriers that might prevent the African and Caribbean community from making transformational life changes. Our services are delivered in ways that are culturally appropriate, non-intrusive and non-judgemental, using appropriate languages and factoring socio-economic challenges.

SOCIAL JUSTICE

SOCIAL JUSTICE

Windrush Defenders is strongly contesting the current design of justice as it relates to the Windrush generation and the wider African and Caribbean community. We believe that all people should have equal access to wealth, health, well-being, justice, privileges, and opportunity regardless of their ethnicity, choices or circumstances.

Windrush Defenders is strongly contesting the current design of justice as it relates to the Windrush generation and the wider African and Caribbean community. We believe that all people should have equal access to wealth, health, well-being, justice, privileges, and opportunity regardless of their ethnicity, choices or circumstances.

Our emphasis has been on campaigning for a Windrush Act that protects the Windrush Generation and their descendants from the recurrence of the ‘Scandal’ and for restoration of their rights that has been taken away over the years by changes to legislation. We are also working on achieving the recommendation in our ‘Burning Work’ report by having dialogues and working with statutory bodies to break barriers for social mobility, and commissioning research to investigate the intersection of Race, Community and Policing.
